After years of being a sedentary indoors Mum I was introduced to the "pleasures" of walking in the countryside. In the last 10 years or so I have managed to do lots of walking in England, Scotland and Wales, both at low level and on the higher tops.

Since buying my first digital camera I have collected many photographs of the areas I have visited and have finally been persuaded to set up a website in order to share some of my photographs and experiences of the days I have enjoyed (or in some cases, endured) on the hills.

So here is a collection of photographs and walk descriptions outlining some of my many wanderings in the glorious British countryside.

With the promise of a good weather forecast Steve and I decided to visit Tilberthwaite and climb to Birk Fell via Tilberthwaite Gill. Although I had been to Birkfell before, I hadn't climbed Tilberthwaite Gill and I was looking forward to seeing its cascades. The weather held and the views were fantastic and therefore the walk took longer than it should have done. Thanks to Steve for his company yet again.

Once again the weather forecast wasn't too brilliant, so instead of the fells, Steve and I headed for the coast and a walk around the the Hodbarrow Nature Reserve at Haverigg. Short breaks in misty weather gave us some interesting views but we didn't manage to see much wildlife.
The day before we went to the Lakes Aquarium at Lakeside, where my waterproof camera came in useful. Thanks to Steve for his company on both days.

Instead of going up to Barrow for Christmas, I came up the second week in January. On Saturday, the weather wasn't too good so we went for the old standby and visited the waterfalls in Tom Gill at Tarn Hows. On Sunday we were determined to make the most of the day and went to explore the west side of Grizedale Forest. We weren't the only ones there but we did manage to avoid the bulk of the crowds and saw some interesting sculptures whilst we were there.

One of the most impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain. Its unsurpassed location provides a 360 degree view of the some of the most impressive lakeland fells.

Watergrove Country Park

Watergrove Country Park is about 3 miles north east of Rochdale. Watergrove is a thriving outdoor recreational area, catering to a diverse range of activities. Despite the popularity of the area, if you are prepared to venture away from the immediate environs of the reservoir itself, you could spend the whole day exploring the remoter areas of the upper valley and perimeter hills and barely meet another person.
