 4.22 miles 921' ascent |
This was going to be my last Lake District fell walk for 2009. We left Barrow at approx 7:30am hoping to catch a glimpse of the sunrise. Unfortunately we didn't get a good sunrise, but we did catch the morning inversion in the Crake valley. We had decided not to try for one the high fells deep in the Lake District as the snow and ice might have been too thick. The walk took approx 4 1/2 hours. The views were so good, I could have stayed on the tops for much longer. Thanks to Steve for patiently marking a route for me to follow through the snow. |

With a forecast promising good weather, I was pleased that I could have another weekend in the Lake District. Today's walk started in the quiet Miterdale and took us straight to some of the best mountain views in the Lake District. The cold temperatures meant that some of the wetter areas were frozen, which made crossing them easier. The walk took approx 6 hours and 20 minutes. The views were so good, I could have stayed on the tops for much longer. Thanks to Steve for being my guide and giving me the time I needed to explore this area. |

We had agreed to venture into Yorkshire again and had arranged to meet up with Dave and Josie at the Cow and Calf. The weather was mixed and included an extremely heavy shower. The sunny intervals brought out the colour in moor and really brighten the day. The walk took about 2 3/4 hours, this included stops for photographs, but no lunch breaks. |

Dave very kindly offered to take Steve and me on one of his local walks on Barden Moor. This is an area of wild moorland, away from the easy to follow paths it is wet, rough and covered with thick heather and bracken with weird outcrops of weathered millstone grit along its edges. Although the weather was bad at times, we had an enjoyable day. The walk took just over 6 and half hours. |

We had arranged to meet up with Simon in Ambleside and walk up to Wansfell Pike via the Stock Ghyll waterfalls. Unfortunately our views were limited due to the low cloud and rain. However, the waterfalls were an impressive sight.
We had an enjoyable day despite the weather and the walk took about 5 and a half hours. Thanks to Simon and Steve for their company. |

We had arranged to meet up with Simon and Keith at Grasmere and then walk to Tarn Crag via Sergeant Man. It was a walk with mixed views. At times we had no view at all because of the low cloud, at other times there were wonderful views of the nearby tarns and mountains. The walk took just under 6 and 3/4 hours. Thanks to Steve, Simon and Keith for their company. |
